Volunteer With Us!
Volunteers have always been at the heart of MCC Toronto. We would not be the strong, inclusive and welcoming community we’ve become, without the support and dedication of volunteers who help support our Worship Services and our other public programs.
Volunteering is a wonderful way to connect with community, fulfil your passion, pick up a new skill or enrich your faith.
Volunteer Opportunities
MCC Toronto needs your help as we move to resume in-person Services and programs shortly. Please consider signing up for any of these volunteer roles.
PROGRAMMING
Triangle Lunch Program: Serve delicious meals for students in Canada’s only LGBTQ+ high
Serving up meals to students in the Triangle Program is one of our most in-demand volunteer offerings! The Triangle Lunch Program returns for the 2023-2024 school year in September, and we need help in the kitchen! Volunteer opportunities are currently available Tuesdays and Thursdays, and a Monday lunch program is in the works.
Children’s Church
Do you have experience working with children of elementary school age? We are looking for volunteers to help in Children’s Church, a twice-a-month Sunday-morning program. Volunteers will work closely with leaders to provide care and assistance during class time.
We believe all children are created in the image of God. It is our calling as a faith community to help engage the curiosity of our children, making space for their questions and exploration. and guiding them to find meaning in our shared spiritual journeys.
Please note that, In order to ensure the safety of children at MCC Toronto, all prospective volunteers will be screened in keeping with best practices and provincial guidelines.
WORSHIP SERVICE VOLUNTEER NEEDS
Information Desk: Help us assist congregants and orient new visitors to all that MCC Toronto has to offer!
Be a welcoming face for MCC Toronto as an Information Desk volunteer! Your role would involved staffing the Information Desk in our Social Hall for a ½ hour following our in-person 11 AM Worship Service and assisting congregants in processing donations, answering questions about our special events or upcoming programs, and helping to orient new folks to all that MCC Toronto has to offer. Typically, Information Desk Volunteers serve on a once-a-month basis.
Please note this position requires a knowledge of the church and it’s programs. An in-depth familiarity with MCC Toronto is required.
Multimedia Team: Help us connect with worshippers in person and online!
Worship is happening in person again, but that’s not the only way to join us! We’re live streaming for folks who can’t be with us in person. We need multimedia volunteers to help make sure all worshippers are connected and included. First, we need volunteers to operate presentation software (PowerPoint) during the 11 am services. Second, we need to add tech-savvy volunteers to support our live-streaming team.
Altar Guild: Help us with our altar set-up!
A lit candle. A celebratory banner. The bread and the cup. When we’re gathered for worship, our experiences are enriched by the presence of special ceremonial objects. Volunteers on the Altar Guild see to it that these sacred objects are reverently and properly placed. Altar Guild volunteers can be scheduled to serve during the 9 or 11 AM services and should be comfortable being visible during services.
Communion Servers: Help us serve!
For many congregants, partaking in Communion is one of the most meaningful parts of worship. This simple, ceremonial meal of bread and wine follows a pattern established by Jesus himself and makes real Jesus’ promise to be with us always. Communion Server Volunteers share the elements of communion – the bread and the wine – with worshippers as they come forward to receive.
Greeters/Ushers: Help us make MCC Toronto a welcoming place!
On a busy Sunday at MCC Toronto, several hundred people pass through our open doors—both physically and virtually. Volunteer Ushers, Greeters, and Digital Ushers are often the first faces many folks see when they arrive, whether in-person or online. Members of this team are responsible for sharing a warm welcome with arriving worshippers and for those volunteering in-person, helping to direct the flow of people in and out of the sanctuary. Volunteers in these roles will also help ensure congregants know and follow Covid-19 protocols for social gatherings.
Sanctuary Saints
When MCC’s Sanctuary needs some TLC after a Sunday of vibrant worship, it’s the Sanctuary Saints’ time to shine! Volunteers on this team help prepare our worship space by tidying up loose papers and other items in the sanctuary and doing some light cleaning.
Each of these volunteer areas will be supported with training.
