Finance Manager

Position Title: Finance Manager

Hours: Contract position (32 hours per week), 2-year contract with potential for renewal.

Summary of Position:

The Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the organization. This role includes providing regular and timely updates on the organization’s financial health to Senior Leadership, preparing current year results and future projections, and monitoring the budget along with day-to-day financial activities.

Compensation:

This is a contract position offering an hourly wage of $40 – $50, commensurate with experience, based on an average four-day work week (32 hours). Compensation will be paid semi-monthly, with bi-monthly invoices submitted to the Executive Director and COO for approval. MCC Toronto will also cover the cost of HST in addition to the compensation.

Organizational Overview:

Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2023, Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto (MCC Toronto) was established in 1973 as part of the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches, a denomination and global LGBTQ+ Christian movement. Throughout its history, MCC Toronto has been a place of worship and a place of action. Our weekly Worship Services are attended by over 600 congregants both in-person and online. We count a broader congregant community of over 2,000 members drawn from many different religious backgrounds and beliefs, gender identities, gender expressions, sexual orientations, racial and cultural backgrounds, countries of origin, socioeconomic realities, and abilities. We are a proud vibrant, inclusive, and progressive faith community; at MCC Toronto everyone matters and everyone belongs.

Rooted in the 2SLGBTQ+ community, MCC Toronto has long been at the centre of community activism. We have been home to the Triangle Program, Canada’s first 2SLGBTQ+ High School since 1995. We were national leaders in the fight for same sex marriage. Our LGBTQ+ Refugee Programs have served over 8,000 refugees since 2007 and through our status as the exclusive Sponsorship Agreement Holder for LGBTQ+ refugees to Canada, we have sponsored 75 refugees to safety in Canada since 2013.

In 2022, MCC Toronto announced that it had raised a record-setting CAD $5 million through a major gift campaign to help support an elevation of our human rights work through expanded programming, new partnerships, and an emphasis on creating impact and change.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Executive Director & COO, the Finance Manager will lead our efforts to maintain financial reporting and compliance. They will be responsible for:

  1. Attending regularly scheduled meetings as required
  2. Working with the Director of Development and Communications to ensure a seamless accounting of income and expenses, budget and actuals etc.
  3. Supervise a Financial Assistant in the Finance Department
  4. Manage day to day operations of the Finance Department including accounts receivable/payable, payroll, recording of all financial activities, account reconciliations, financial analysis
  5. Provide financial hygiene updates and analysis through monthly operating statements and regular meetings with the Executive Director & Senior Pastor and a Volunteer Finance Sub-Committee of the Board of Directors
  6. Ensure MCC Toronto complies with Government regulations through charitable filings and reporting
  7. Work with contract auditors to ensure completion of an annual audit and prepare all audit schedules in a timely manner
  8. Assist the Executive Director & Senior Pastor in preparing an annual budget and regularly update projections throughout the year
  9. Process bi-monthly payroll including pay change adjustments, in line with payroll legislation, and manage staff benefits
  10. Assist in maintenance of our customer data platform (database) and accounting software to ensure appropriate records, including monthly donation reconciliations and data clean up
  11. Complete annual tax receipting to donors
  12. Monitor investments and provide cash flow forecasts
  13. Assists with financial reporting for departments, such as fundraising and program reports
  14. Other duties as required to provide financial support to leadership and other departments

QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Finance/Accounting Degree
    • CPA is an asset
    • Experience with not-for-profit/charity accounting & bookkeeping
    • Ability to learn/manage new technologies & processes
    • Analytical mindset
    • Financial analysis experience
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Proactive and takes initiative to improve processes

    • Experience with QBO, salesforce, and Ceridian is an asset
