Thanks to the generosity of 106 people,
your church will give away $9,540 in 2002 to our community outreach
projects. Community Outreach Partners commit to donating $10 a month by
E-Giving (pre-authorized bank or credit card debit) to the Community
Outreach fund. For 2002, three outreach projects have been selected from
existing relationships that MCC Toronto has with community organizations.
Stay tuned to Sunday News for more information as we finalize the 2002
projects.
2002 Recipient
Projects
The Dundas Street Public School is located near Broadview and Queen
Streets and is comprised of Dundas St School, Queen Alexander, First
Nations School and SEED Alternative Program. The nutrition program feeds
1000 students daily, providing them with a nutritious breakfast, a morning
snack, lunch and an after-school snack.
Thanks to the Community Outreach Partners, MCC Toronto was able to
present a cheque for $3,500 to the Dundas St. School Nutrition Program,
which will buy 10,000 cartons of milk, enough for 2 classes for the entire
school year. Studies show that children's success in school is directly
related to their level of nourishment. By making this donation, the MCCT
Community Outreach Partners are making an investment in the future of
these young people.
The cheque was presented on Homecoming Sunday, September 8th. On hand
to receive the cheque on behalf of the Toronto District School Board were
Mena Paternostro, Nutrition Liaison Officer, as well as Jocelyn Lau,
Nutrition Program Coordinator for the Dundas Street School. This is the
first recipient of funds from this program and the next presentation will
be made later this fall.
Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some frequently asked questions about the
Community Outreach Partnerships:
Q. Does the money fund church programs?
A. No. The fund cannot be used to fund MCC
Toronto programs or ministries or be used to offset any church operating
expenses. 100% of the funds donated will be disbursed to other agencies in
the community.
Q. Who determines where the money goes?
A. For 2002, staff have selected three projects
from existing relationships with external community agencies or services.
There projects are:
- Dundas Street Public School's nutrition program
- SAPACCY (Substance Abuse Program for African Canadian
and Caribbean Youth)
- A women's shelter which will be selected in December
2002
For 2003 and beyond, a community outreach steering team
will be appointed by Rev. Hawkes to review and approve grant requests from
the community agencies. Guidelines for granting are now being finalized
for 2003.
Q. Can I be an Outreach Partner and use offering
envelopes or give more or less than $10?
A. To minimize the administration of the program
and keep the process simple, becoming a Community Outreach Partner is only
possible through monthly pre-authorized donations on our E-Giving program.
The cost of being a partner is $10, no more, no less.
Q. How can I become a Community Outreach
Partner?
A. Fill out a yellow Welcome! card and write "Community Outreach" on
it and place it in the offering plate or call David Sterritt at
416-406-6227 ext 101 or be email to
